Community events are heating up - which means there's lots to do in Flamborough this weekend.

Here's what's going on:

Friday, April 26

Bloom at Village Theatre Waterdown, Memorial Hall (317 Dundas St. East)

The Village Theatre production of Bloom by Andrew Morton continues this weekend (April 26-28) and next (May 2-5). 

Following the death of his father, 15-year-old Daniel and his mother are forced to move. After an outburst at his new school and at the suggestion of a social worker, Daniel starts helping out an urban gardener who is revitalizing several abandoned city lots. Not just plants start to grow.

Festive Pasta Dinner, Grace Anglican Church Waterdown (157 Mill St. North)

Grace Anglican Church is serving up a pasta dinner from 6 to 9 p.m. Adult tickets $15, children tickets $10, under 5, $5. Wine and beer will be available for purchase, $5. 

Youth Dance, Waterdown Legion (79 Hamilton St. North)

For Youths in Grades 6, 7 and 8. Doors open a 7 p.m., dance starts at 7:30 p.m. Ticket sales will end at 8:30 p.m.. Dance ends at 11 p.m. Cost is $15 per person OR $10 with a non-perishable item for Food With Grace.

Pop/water, chips, and pizza from Gino’s Pizza will be served. No backpacks or oversized bags allowed, and there will be NO in and out privileges.

Saturday, April 27

Strabane Park cleanup, Brock Road at Safari Road

Volunteers needed for the Strabane Park clean up! Event starts at 9 a.m. Please bring your own gloves and rakes. BBQ provided by the Strabane Parks Board.

Independent Bookstore Day at Pickwick Books (325 Dundas St. East, Waterdown)

Pickwick Books owner Marney Mycroft is celebrating one year since taking over the store AND Independent Bookstore Day. There'll be sweet treat, a Bookish Blend tea tasting and raffle prizes.

Compost giveaway, Joe Sams Park (Centre Road at 5th Concession East)

The City of Hamilton is giving away leaf and yard waste compost at Joe Sams Park fro 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring your own pails, shovels, and elbow grease.
