LETTER: Stoplight may be the best solution for Copetown intersection

FlamboroughToday received the following letter commenting on a recent fatal crash on Hwy. 52.

It seems everyone is jumping to the conclusion that it was the Powerline Road intersection that was the cause of the accident. I’m not so sure that it was.

I came upon the scene shortly after the accident. From what I could see from the location of the cars, it looks like it was snow-covered, slippery roads that caused the collision. Highway 52 was very slippery all the way from Peter’s Corners. No salting, it appears, had taken place.

That does not take away from the fact that the Powerline intersection is a bad one. A stoplight at this intersection with turn lanes would be better here and would make it much safer to cross from the rail trail. The intersection is a “T” and Powerline Road is not that busy. Westover Road and Highway 8, which has similar volume of traffic, has lights and turn lanes that work well.
