Flamborough Connects staff and volunteers serve up the goods during a Friday BBQ at Turkstra Lumber in 2023. The best lunch deal in town is back starting May 17.

The weather is warming up and the Flamborough Connects Friday Fundraising BBQs are back at Turkstra Lumber Waterdown!

Join us every Friday beginning May 17 until Labour Day for a hot dog, hamburger or veggie burger and a drink for only $5. If you make a donation, you also get your choice of a bag of chips or a cookie. You can’t beat that price for a great lunch and all proceeds support the programs and services of Flamborough Connects. Stop by the Turkstra Lumber Waterdown parking lot, 61 Hamilton St, North from 12 to 1:30 p.m. beginning this Friday!

And a HUGE should out to Turkstra Lumber Waterdown for supporting Flamborough Connects with the Friday Fundraising BBQs. We couldn’t do it without you and we appreciate everything you do for Flamborough Connects and the Flamborough community!

Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity? The Flamborough Connects Friday Fundraising BBQs might be a perfect fit! Volunteer once for a couple hours or volunteer for several Fridays over the summer. This is a great opportunity for students to get their community service hours! We’re looking for help with set-up and tear down, taking orders, serving food and grilling. Connect with us at 905-689-7880, [email protected] or check out the Volunteer Opportunities page on our website for more details.

Speaking of volunteering, did you know that Flamborough Connects shares volunteer opportunities from community organizations across Flamborough on our website? Be sure to check out the Volunteer Opportunities page under Flamborough Volunteers on the Flamborough Connects website. And while you’re there, check out the Flamborough Connects Community Events Calendar, too.

Flamborough Drives program gets a boost

Have you heard about Flamborough Drives? This Flamborough Connects program provides rides for seniors without access to transportation. Volunteer drivers take Flamborough residents to the grocery store, pharmacy, bank, post office, hairdresser or on other errands within Flamborough.

There is a small fee based on the mileage for your trip. And, thanks to a donation from 100 Women Who Care, all rides for low-income seniors are subsidized to $10 per trip. We currently have space available for new clients. And we are always looking for new volunteer drivers. Connect with us!

Are you a senior looking for nutrition information? You’ll want to attend the free “Food and Mood” presentation by a registered dietitian from the Hamilton Family Health Team. This Flamborough Connects Seniors Education Session is happening on Wednesday, June 12 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Grace Anglican Church, 157 Mill Street North in Waterdown.

For more information or to register, connect with us at [email protected] or 905-689-7880.
