Waterdown walkers raise over $5K for Food4Kids

Funds will help 33 students in local schools dealing with food scarcity

Local residents didn't let a little rain get in the way of a good cause on Sunday at the Flamborough Family Fun Run.

Volunteers from the Flamborough AM Rotary and Waterdown Rotary clubs cheered on participants at the family-friendly, non-competitive event in Memorial Park, which raised over $5,400 through Food4Kids Hamilton.

The two service clubs provide ongoing support for 33 students at Waterdown schools experiencing food scarcity, which costs about $20,000 per year, according to Fun Run organizer Ryan Bridge.

Community events like the Fun Run and Food4Kids Family Day brunch in February not only raise money, but awareness of the need in the community and get families involved, Bridge noted in an earlier interview with FlamboroughToday.

“We’re all really lucky to live in Waterdown and we think it’s an affluent town – and for the most part it is – but there’s still people dealing with food scarcity and we have to do what we can,” he said.
